About Us
About
NRI Affairs is a platform for overseas Indians and South Asians to stay connected with their culture and to provide a window into their lives. We provide news, opinions, art and entertainment to our diaspora communities around the world. NRI Affairs is also part of a broader effort of community transformation and advocacy aimed at mobilising overseas Indians to social justice causes that include environmental justice, socio-economic justice, gender equity, immigrant rights, anti-discrimination and more.
What we publish
The masthead reads India & the world, and that is the angle: India reported for readers who do not live there, and diaspora life reported as domestic news rather than as foreign correspondence.
- News and Opinion — reporting from India and the diaspora, and argument kept separate from it.
- Diaspora — community, migration and identity across the countries our readers live in.
- Visa & Mobility and Student Hub — the rule changes, fees and study pathways that decide whether people can move, stay or bring family.
- Business and Culture — trade, work and enterprise; books, film, art and the diaspora’s own cultural production.
- Watch and Events — interviews on our YouTube channel, and what is on in the communities we cover.
- A Hindi desk, publishing in Devanagari rather than in translation.
Where we report from
We are based in Australia, and Australia carries the largest share of our coverage. After it, by volume of published work, come the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand. That is where the reporting concentrates; it is not the limit of it.
How we work
We are independent. News copy attributes contested claims to a named person, institution or document, and gives the party under scrutiny their own words before the criticism. Opinion is labelled as opinion and carries its author’s name. Sponsored placements are labelled Sponsored and are never sold on the basis of coverage. Where we get something wrong, we correct it on the page and say what changed.
Our full position on sourcing and corrections is set out on the Media Literacy page.
