A staff member at the Soul Bowl cafe in Rosehill, Sydney was left shaken after a customer threw hot coffee at him in an alleged assault on Thursday, following a disagreement, 9NEWS reported.
CCTV footage shows the customer first orders two takeaway coffees. As the barista, Suman Dhital, starts making the coffees, a young woman puts in an order. The man insists that he would like to pay for her order too, to which the woman politely declined.
Suman says when he declined to take the the payment, respecting the woman’s wishes, the man allegedly became aggressive and abusive and hurled two hot coffees at him.
“It was all over my hand, face, all over my jacket – everywhere (in the shop) full of coffee.”, Suman told 9NEWS.
“We won’t tolerate it. We want to find out who he is and we basically want to take it all the way.”, cafe owner Lily Semaan said who has posted the CCTV footage on the cafe’s social media.
“Our staff member was respecting the young lady’s wishes because of that he was harassed, sworn at and abused,” she said.
Suman was left with burns to his face and hands.
Police are now investigating the assault.
“Inquiries continue to identify and locate the man depicted who is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern Appearance, aged in his 30s, with short black hair and a beard,” the police statement read.
