“I am pleased to send my greetings to Sikh Community in New South Wales as they come together to celebrate Vaisakhi,” says NSW Labor MP Chriss Minns.
“Traditionally Vaisakhi marks the beginning of the harvest time in the Punjab region. It is a time to give thanks for the past and to look to the coming year with optimism. It is a time that combines tradition and prosperity,” he said in a message sent to NRI Affairs.
“Vaisakhi is an important festival for the people of the Punjab region and also an event of great significance to one of the world’s great faiths, Sikhism. Sikhs throughout the world celebrate the founding of the Khalsa and the creation of key articles of faith by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.”
“I acknowledge the contribution the Sikh community has made to New South Wales over many decades, including the heroic and selfless efforts of many Sikhs during our recent flood crisis. On behalf of NSW Labor, I offer my best wishes to the Australian Sikh community for the coming year and thank them for everything they have given to Australia,” Mr Minns said.
