Melbourne’s Goan community celebrated the Goan Food Festival 2021 at the Menzies Hall in Dandenong North on Sunday 18 April.
Visitors thronged the hall and lined up to tantalise their taste buds. Some of the popular dishes were balchao – the traditional Goan prawn curry, fried fish, sorpotel (a spicy pork dish), croquettes (mince beef puffs) and the popular vindaloo.
Gerard Lobo, President – Goan Overseas Association of Victoria said that the festival started seven years ago mainly to give Goan students a taste of their home cuisine but has since become a much awaited annual event that brings Melbourne’s Goan community together.
GOAV has a busy calendar with a Members Sports Day on 2 May and the May Queen Ball on 15 May.
