There aren’t many seats where India-Australians are in deciding position; however, there are several seats where Indian-origin people live in large numbers.
Here is a quick look at the seats where South Asians live in large numbers.
New South Wales
Parramatta
Labor party has retained its safe seat comfortably as Andrew Charlton beat Maria Kovacic, the Liberal candidate. Greens Phil Bradley managed a 1.6 per cent swing in his favour, while Rohan Laxmanalal of Animal Justice Party has also had a 2.8 per cent positive swing.
Hughes (Liverpool, Cabramatta)
Jenny Ware of the Liberal party has retained the seat beating Riley Campbell of Labor. However, both major parties lost huge grounds as Independent Georgia Steele managed a 15 per cent swing in her favour.
Greenway (Blacktown)
ALP’s Michelle Rowland has saved her seat, beating Pradeep Pathi of the Liberal party. It has been a marginal seat, and Rowland managed a 2.9 per cent positive swing while the Liberal party lost 10.8 per cent of its vote from the previous elections.
Eden-Monaro (Queanbeyan)
Eden-Monaro is an NSW seat bordering ACT. ALP has retained the seat, with Kristy McBain beating Liberal candidate Jerry Nockles.
Victoria
Lalor
Melbourne’s Lalor seat, a Labor stronghold, has gone to Joanne Ryan, re-elected for the fourth term. She beat Liberal Ravi Gaddipati.
Nicholls (Shepperton)
The Nationals have retained the seat of Nicholls as Sam Birrell has beaten Independent Rob Priestly. However, NATs have lost considerable ground as Birrell saw a negative swing of 27 per cent.
Queensland
Moreton (Kuraby, Runcorn)
Queensland’s Moreton has re-elected Graham Perrett of Labor, who beat Steven Huan of Liberal National Party. Previously held by ALP with a margin of 1.9%, Moreton saw a 3 per cent swing in favour of Labor.
South Australia
Hindmarsh
Mark Butler retains the safe SA labor seat beating Anna Finizio of the Liberal party. Greens and One Nation have managed a positive swing of over 3 per cent while both major parties lost some ground.
Western Australia
Brand
Madeleine King holds a safe Labor seat beating Liberal’s Peter Hudson by a huge margin.
Tasmania
Clark
Independent Andrew Wilkie was re-elected for the central Hobart seat beating Labor’s Simon Davis by a vast margin.
Northern Territory
Solomon
Luke Gosling re-elected for third term in Darwin seat. Labor’s Luke Gosling has defeated Tina Macfarlane of Country Liberal.
