Australian-Indian Sports Educational and Cultural Society (AISEC)-organised community cricket match between Minister XI and High Commissioner XI is returning after a two-year-long Covid break.
When Minister’s XI captain Victor Dominello steps on the pitch at Bressington Park in Homebush, he will have a score to settle. The High Commissioner XI defeated Victor Dominello’s team in 2019 when the first community match between the two teams was played.
AISEC’s president Gurnam Singh says it would be a pleasure to finally have this match which they could not organise last year and the year before that due to Covid protocols.
The match, to be played on Sunday 15th May 2022, will be attended by many dignitaries and distinguished guests, including Mark Coure, Minister for Multiculturalism and Seniors, NSW and Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley. Multicultural NSW CEO Joseph La Posta, Fiona Martin MP, John Sidoti MP, Gurmesh Singh MP and Detective Superintendent Andrew Koutsoufis. Liberal candidate for Parramatta Maria Kovacic and Deputy Lord Mayor of Parramatta Sameer Pandey will also join the event.
Many Indian officials, including Acting High Commissioner Suneet Mehta, First Secretary Dr B Sriram, Consul General Manish Gupta, Deputy Consul General Sanjay Muluka and many former Australian cricketers, will have a go on the ground.
Gurnam Singh says this event will be a momentous occasion to celebrate the inking of the historic Australia India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA). “The phenomenal gathering will also be an opportunity to warm up for the highly awaited Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia later this year,” Mr Singh told NRI Affairs.
The event will also feature ‘Heartbeat of Football’, an organisation on the mission to have zero heart-related deaths on the sporting ground.
‘Heartbeat of Football’ (HOF) promotes healthy hearts in sport via:
• Awareness: player, participant & community education
• Prevention: minimisation of health risks – simple screening checks
• Action: “rescue-ready” defibrillators (AEDs) at all sporting fields around the country
On Sunday, HOF will be heart-health-testing with the Victor Chang Research Institute nurses checking for blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.
“This will be a fun day for everyone as we have organised Live DJ, Barbeque, Jumping Castle and Fairy Floss too,” said Mr Singh, adding that the event is open for everyone to attend.
