On his second leg of visit to the European Nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Queen of Denmark Margrethe II at the historic Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.
According to the Royal House-Kongehuset, marking the occasion of the visit of Indian Prime Minister to Denmark for the first time in twenty years, the Queen of Denmark also hosted an official dinner in Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg which was also attended by Denmark’s Crown Prince Couple and the senior officials from both the countries.
During the first in-person meeting with the Queen of Denmark, PM Modi felicitated the Queen on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of her accession to the throne of Denmark and further briefed her on the increasing momentum in India-Denmark ties in recent years, particularly the Green Strategic Partnership.
According to the official release by the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister also lauded the role of the Danish Royal Family in furthering social causes.
PM Modi who is on the three-days, three- nation visit to Europe, earlier in a day arrived at Copenhagen where he was personally received by the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen.
Later, the two leaders held one-on-one talks on range of issues, including the Green Strategic Partnership, established earlier in September , 2020, during the Virtual Summit between the two Prime Ministers.
On his meeting with the PM Frederiksen, PM Modi said, “India’s Green Strategic Partnership with Denmark is deeply valued. The Denmark PM and I discussed how we can make this partnership even more effective. We also discussed cooperation in sectors such as renewable energy, ports, shipping, water management and more.”
The two leaders also held discussion over current regional and global development including the situation in Ukraine.
“We have discussed on issues like Ukraine, Indo-Pacific. We have appealed for cessation of conflict and work out on a solution with dialogue,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders also jointly condemned civilians death in Ukraine.
Addressing the joint press briefing, PM Modi also expressed hope that negotiations on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement will be concluded at the earliest.
Discussing over the trade and investment front, the two Prime Ministers emphasized the need to maximize the potential of economic ties between the two countries. As per Denmark Statistics, the total volume of bilateral trade in goods and services between India and Denmark rose to around USD 5 billion as compared to USD 3.6 billion in 2020. Also, according to the information available on Invest in Denmark, the total value of Indian investments in Denmark, as of June 2021, stands at USD 450 million.
According to the joint press statement, the leaders affirmed that robust bilateral investments and trade flows through diversified, resilient, transparent, open, secure and predictable global supply chains would ensure economic security and prosperity of their peoples.
On Day two of his visit to Denmark, PM Modi is scheduled to attend the second India-Nordic Summit. The summit that was to physically take place earlier in 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic was being hosted by Denmark this year. The summit brings together India along with five countries in the Nordic-region-Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.
PM Modi is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Nordic leaders and will review the progress in India’s bilateral relations with them.
