Indian authorities have rescued two Kangaroos in the eastern state of India, while one has been found dead.
Indian forest officials say they rescued two Kangrooes near Gajoldoba in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.
“The kangaroos had some serious injuries on their bodies & have been sent to Bengal Safari Park for further treatment. A team has been formed to probe the matter,” said S Dutta, RO, Belakoba Forest Range.
“We have initiated further investigation for ascertaining the whereabouts of these Kangaroos, by whom and how they were brought into the forest, along with finding the cause behind bringing them,” Dutta told Indian news agency ANI.
Forest officials rescued another Kangaroo from the Farabari-Nepali busty in the Dabgram forest range of Jalpaiguri the next day.
Unfortunately, another baby Kangaroo was found dead. Officials say an investigation has been initiated to ascertain how they got there.
Kangaroos are native to Australia and New Guinea, and their presence in the forests in West Bengal is suspicious. Therefore the authorities are investigating how these animals turned up there.
The word ‘kangaroo’ is derived from ‘Gangurru’, a term used by the indigenous people of Far North Queensland and bears cultural and spiritual significance for Aboriginal people in Australia.’
