India’s foreign ministry spokesperson was asked about Vishal Jood at his press briefing.
India’s foreign ministry is aware of the judgement passed by an Australian court in the matter of Vishal Jood, an Indian student convicted of assault and damaging property, who is now serving a jail term.
India’s foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told media persons at his weekly briefing on 2 September that they are still awaiting the judgment’s details.
Mr Bagchi said, “We have been asked about this in the past also. What we know at the moment is that today, on 2 September, an Australian court heard the matter and passed a judgement on him. We are ascertaining the details. Our consulate and high commission are on it for a long time. And, we were given the consular access too.”
“So, regarding the judgement, we are trying to find the further details. So, I don’t have all these details as of now. And, there are some privacy issues also. But, I can tell you that for now, we know that an Australian court has passed a judgement,” he added.
24-year-old Vishal Jood has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for violent assaults and property damage.
