As a media platform that typically focuses on telling others’ stories, we find ourselves momentarily in the spotlight, and it feels incredibly affirming to be acknowledged for our commitment to courage and truth-telling.

We are honoured to be nominated for the Mavericks of Australia Award by Allies in Colour, a groundbreaking initiative that celebrates individuals and organisations making significant contributions to social justice.

Allies in Colour, founded by Tharini Rouwette, is an innovative platform dedicated to amplifying voices that challenge systemic barriers and promote meaningful social change. Rouwette’s vision with this award is to recognise trailblazers who demonstrate extraordinary courage in speaking truth to power.

NRI Affairs is an independent on-line current-affairs platform for overseas Indians with a particular focus on community transformation and advocacy aimed at promoting social justice. It is run by Deepak Joshi, Managing Editor, Nandini Sen Mehra, Culture Editor, and their support team.

Our nomination among distinguished changemakers like Senator Fatima Payman, Senator Mehreen Faruqi, and other courageous advocates is a testament to our ongoing commitment to honest, impactful reporting within the Indian diaspora community.

As Tharini Rouwette aptly notes in the award announcement, “courage shapes change,” and we are proud to be recognised for our small but persistent efforts in this direction.

The Mavericks of Australia Award represents more than just individual recognition—it’s a celebration of the collective spirit of those who dare to challenge the status quo and advocate for meaningful societal transformation.
