A documentary called ‘GEETA’, set in India and made by two emerging Indian-Australian producers from Melbourne, has been selected for a prestigious screening at the Melbourne International Film Festival 2021. Described as, an intimate and inspiring portrait of a mother and daughter’s fight to determine their own fates and to campaign for real change. Its producers are now calling out for public support to bring Neetu, one of the inspirational force behind this film, to Australia.
The story follows Geeta and Neetu as founding members of social enterprise ‘Sheroes Hangout (India)’, which now employs 30 full-time acid attack survivors and raises funds to support the rehabilitation, counselling, and surgery of other survivors.
“I was born to a very powerful mother”

Director Emma Macey-Storch told NRI Affairs, “We are really looking forward to our world premiere and finally being able to share the incredible journey of Geeta and Neetu with live audiences. I am sure people will be surprised about how hopeful the story actually is.“
“It’s not too late to donate and every little bit helps. If you are able, we would love your support” said Nayana Bhandari, Co-Producer.
This special social impact campaign for GEETA is listed for tax-deductible giving via The Documentary Australia Foundation. All money raised will be spent on securing Neetu’s involvement in Australia.
